Main opposition Coalition of the Left (SYRIZA) party leader Alexis Tsipras revealed at Thessaloniki International Fair his party’s goals as well as the party line hoping that this process will lead to national elections.
The main messages sent by Alexis Tsiparas are following:
1. SYRIZA will proceed to the necessary actions required by the humanitarian crisis created and put an end to the irrational demands and decisions of the government, such as immediate end to legal sanctions and the threat of auctions, immediate termination of the single property tax (ENFIA) which will be replaced by large landowners’ tax based on the actual amount of assets.
2. Mr. Tsipras reassured the citizens about the place of Greece in Europe by saying that whenever he presented the positions of SYRIZA, European officials did not react and did not threaten Greece with the country’s exit from the European Union.
3. He avoided to open or insist on issues that would enhance the reactions on his main announcements and promises and might cause turmoil. For example, he did not attack on the banking system.
4. He presented the new main dilemma which his party will keep on posing asking for elections: Is it possible a government that has not negotiated anything so far to proceed to debt negotiations now? Or the debt negotiation is to be started by a SYRIZA government that is determined to claim more for Greece?
5. The main political goal is to proceed to early elections on the occasion of the election for president of Hellenic Republic.
6. SYRIZA’s goal is to achieve parliamentary majority and for the first time Mr. Tsipras implied that SYRIZA will not agree to a large coalition with New Democracy and PASOK, but it will go for new elections, if a progressive government cannot be formed.
7. SYRIZA will cooperate with other parties during the election campaign.
8. Mr. Tsipras calmed down the left wing of the party by talking about debt write-off and the need to dissolve NATO.
