36-year-old Angelo Bratis is the latest young designer to be taken under 80-year-old Giorgio Armani’s wing and is considered a strong contender to take over the creative leadership of the global-styled empire.
Anxious to prove himself a worthy successor, Mr. Bratis presented an eclectic selection of sheer and sensual evening dresses in featherweight textiles during his show for the Spring-Summer 2015 fashion season in Milan. His work included crepe de Chine and silk twill. Earlier, he had said that he had purposely chosen to have a simple collection in order to showcase his own unique style that includes his trademark use of pleats and folds.
His breezy clothes look elegant and simple, but their construction is anything but that and require a mathematical approach. Though Mr. Bratis is fast avalanching forth as a huge talent in international fashion design, his use of drapes elude to Greek goddesses and seem to wink at his Greek heritage. His masterpiece fashion items were complemented by jewelry by another upcoming Greek designer, Maria Mastori.
He is quoted by AFP as saying:
“There has been a lot of pressure and it has been a lot of hard work, but Mr. Armani chose me because I have my own style and that is what I wanted to show. With all this attention from the press and buyers, I wanted to show to the people who don’t know Bratis, what Bratis is. In one show they get all the codes—that is why I limited everything to only dresses, only technique.”

Angelos Bratis is a Greek designer born in Athens 36 years ago. After graduating with an MA in fashion design from Amsterdam’s Fashion Institute in Arnhem, Mr. Bratis started an intense journey in the fashion world with his eponymous line – characterized by a fluid, elegant, and architectural design – and by working as a consultant for prestigious fashion houses. In 2011 he was one of the winners of “Who Is On Next”, a scouting project organized by Altaroma in collaboration with Vogue Italia. After this great experience he started to showcase his pret-a-porter and couture collections in the most important fashion capitals. In January 2013, the British magazine Wallpaper named Mr. Bratis as one of the prominent upcoming designers to watch and inn September 2013 Angelos Bratis made his debut at Milano Moda Donna with his SS14 collection. The fashion show took place in an exclusive venue, at Sala delle Cariatidi in the Palazzo Reale.
