The promises the Eurozone finance ministers gave Greece in 2012 are still valid, said the European Union Monetary Affairs Commissioner, Olli Rehn, in an interview with the newspaper “Rheinische Post”, adding that the Eurozone is no longer in danger and that the Greek economy has started to grow again.

However, despite the fact that – as he said – the commitments for loan repayment extension and lowering of interest rates are still valid, Rehn avoided to rule out anything about the prospects of debt.

Answering the question on whether Greece can rebound without new aid, given the huge amount of debt, he said that Greece has not asked for any further assistance and therefore the issue is not on the agenda.
“A new troika mission is required and also a new analysis of the sustainability of Greek debt,” he stressed.

“Then in the fall, on that basis, we will be able to make a decision,” said the European Commissioner, stressing that even now, he cannot say anything definitive regarding Greece.
