During a press conference in Washington on Thursday, Director of the IMF’s Communications Department Gerry Rice stated that the International Monetary Fund hasn’t been officially notified by the Greek government of the possibility for an early termination of the country’s support program in late 2014.
More specifically, when asked to comment on Prime Minister Antonis Samaras statements in Berlin on Tuesday, Gerry Rice underlined that the commencement and the termination of a country’s support program is decided only by the country itself and not by the International Monetary Fund.
However, the Mr. Rice stressed that Greece hasn’t request yet the early termination of the loan agreement with the IMF.
The IMF spokesman added that the Fund’s program will expire in March 2016 and that the issue of the early termination will not be on the agenda of the upcoming Greek program evaluation.
