Ukraine war: Russia warns any cyber attack on its satellites is casus belli

Roscosmos said its satellites were not attacked

Newsroom March 2 03:07

Russia will face any cyberattack on its satellites as an act of war, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos warned today.

Dmitry Rogozin, head of Roscosmos, denied reports that Russian satellite control centres had been targeted by cyber-attacks due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and warned against anyone trying to do so, Interfax reported.

“Putting satellites off the internet in any country is in fact a casus belli, a cause for war,” Rogozin said.

He also called on the British-based technology company OneWeb to guarantee that its satellites would not be used against Russia.

If that reassurance could be given the head of Roscosmos indicated that the launch of 36 OneWeb satellites scheduled for March 4 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, which Moscow is leasing from Kazakhstan, will be cancelled, and Russia will not compensate the company.
