Unesco: Athens & London begin talks on the return of the Parthenon Sculptures (Doc)

Last September, UNESCO asked the United Kingdom to reconsider its stance and enter into a dialogue with Greece

Newsroom May 19 11:47

A very important announcement, for a wound that remains open for Greece, the Parthenon Sculptures, was made by Unesco.

According to the announcement, Greece and Britain have responded to the organization’s request to intensify their efforts so that they can be at the same table and talk about the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to where they belong, namely Athens.

Last September, UNESCO asked the United Kingdom to reconsider its stance and enter into a dialogue with Greece.

On April 29, the British Minister of Culture Steven Parkinson sent a request to Unesco to organize a meeting with the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.

Mrs. Mendoni accepted it immediately and according to UNESCO, the date will be announced soon.

According to Unesco, the possible reunification of the Parthenon marbles was announced by the Intergovernmental Commission for the Promotion of the Return of Cultural Property to the Countries of Origin or its Restoration in case of Illegal Appropriation or ICPRCP, which opened its 23rd session this week in Paris.
