Once again, Turkey has proceeded with its usual Navtex tactic, referring once more to islands it characterizes as “demilitarized”.
Specifically, the Navtex from the Smyrna station concerns live ammunition exercises of the Hellenic Navy in areas of the central and northern Aegean.

The Navtex mentions islands such as Samothrace, Lemnos, Lesbos, Samos, Rhodes, Chalki, Kos, and Kastellorizo.
It claimes that based on the conditions, they are demilitarized, while there is mention of “military activities” by Athens “which may pose a risk to security” while “violating” international treaties.
The Navtex came into effect on February 13, and its expiration is on February 24.
