A Norwegian fisherman was surprised to see a huge balloon-like thing floating north of the island of Antoya.

As reported by the German newspaper Bild, Norwegian fisherman Dag Rydland could not believe his eyes when he carefully approached this large balloon and realised it was a dead bottlenose whale (or humpback whale).

In a statement to the newspaper Dagbladet, fisherman Dag Rydland said.

I’ve been a fisherman for 27 years and I’ve seen a few dead whales. But I have never seen a sea crab of that size before.

Whales blow up like balloons after they die because their bodies fill with gas as they decompose.

This dead bottlenose whale was quite large while it was alive. The experienced fisherman estimates its original length at 15 metres and its weight at 40 tonnes.

The rotting and bloating corpses of whales explode when the amount of gas is too much.

“I hope it doesn’t wash ashore,” said the Norwegian fisherman who stayed within 100 metres of the dead sea whale for fear of an explosion.
