France: $452 million sale of an impressive 19th century palace on the outskirts of Paris

It belonged to the powerful Rothschild dynasty and then to King Hassan II of Morocco

Newsroom April 24 07:22

For affluent individuals worldwide who appreciate imperial style, here’s a chance to own a palace on the outskirts of the French capital.

This castle, steeped in centuries of history, was originally the luxurious property of a member of the powerful Rothschild dynasty, later passing to King Hassan II of Morocco, as reported by the New York Post.

The impressive mansion is quietly being offered for sale at the staggering price of $452 million, according to the real estate company “Mansion Global.” Should a buyer be found, it will secure ownership of one of the world’s most expensive properties.

Situated just 40 kilometers from the center of Paris, the sprawling Château d’Armainvilliers is a sight to behold.

Built in the late 19th century on the foundations of a 12th-century castle, it was once part of the Rothschild banking empire before being acquired by King Hassan II of Morocco in the 1980s. After his passing in 1999, his son sold it to a Middle Eastern billionaire in 2008.

Notably, King Hassan II was hailed as a “man of peace” for his role in the Middle East peace process. He ruled for 38 years, maintaining a firm grip on his people.

In 2008, well after the king’s passing in 1999, Hassan II’s son sold the Chateau d’Armainvilliers for €200 million to a buyer from the Middle East who has never made use of it, according to Ignace Meuwissen, co-founder of Whisper Auctions, a specialist in off-market luxury real estate listings, as reported by Mansion Global.

The Château d’Armainvilliers boasts a main house with 100 rooms, three elevators, and 17 bedroom suites adorned with Moroccan-inspired design elements such as ceiling patterns and decorative lighting fixtures.

Spread across the estate are 36 buildings, along with amenities for the fortunate owners and their guests, including a hammam, hairdressing salon, 50 horse stables, staff cottages, and ample car parking.
