“The European crisis is not over, as long as unemployment remains high”, stated EU Commission Presidential candidate Jean-Claude Juncker, during an interview on U.S. television network CNBC.
At the same time he talked about “the rise of populism” throughout Europe. Mr. Juncker stressed that “it is not right to reassure the world by stating that the crisis has ended”.
Despite the improvement of the investment climate in the eurozone, he noted that he does not want to discuss the crisis’ end.
“With high unemployment, particularly among young people in Europe, you cannot tell people that the crisis is over”, he noted, adding that “the crisis will end when unemployment falls”.
Within CNBC’s report, it was noted inter alia that, “a quarter of the working population of Greece and Spain are unemployed”.
