A case that shocked Italy unfolded in Viareggio, in the north of the country, involving a 65-year-old businesswoman and a 47-year-old man who stole her bag.
The incident was captured by a security camera, showing the woman chasing and hitting the man with her car, killing him shortly after he had robbed her.
The man, Said Malkoun, according to Italian media reports, was believed to be an Algerian or Moroccan with a criminal record for thefts and without a residence permit.
After he stole the woman’s bag, she hit him four times with her white Mercedes SUV.
The 65-year-old businesswoman left the scene briefly but returned to retrieve her bag before continuing on her way.
Cinzia Dal Pino, the businesswoman, claimed to the police that the man had threatened her by saying he had a knife; however, no knife was found at the scene during the investigation.
The prosecution has charged her with premeditated homicide, while authorities continue to investigate to determine the identity of the victim, who may have been Moroccan rather than Algerian.
