Madrid: Electric scooter rental companies must remove them by October 25th

The city of Madrid has given electric scooter rental companies until October 25th to remove their scooters from the streets, according to an announcement made by the municipality on Tuesday. This decision follows public outcry over dangerous riding and chaotic parking by users

Newsroom October 8 10:30

After revoking their licenses last month, the city stated that the three foreign companies (Lime, Dott, and Tier Mobility) failed to enforce rules on how customers operate the scooters or where they park them.

As a result, the companies have not regained their licenses.

Amsterdam-based Dott, German company Tier Mobility, and U.S.-based Lime each have around 2,000 electric scooters deployed across Madrid.

Lime and Dott mentioned that they had not been officially informed of the deadline set by the city. Lime stated that once notified, it would take the necessary steps to comply with the decision, while Dott indicated that it would explore possible legal actions.

Tier has not responded to a request for comment.

In many cities around the world, there have been complaints about the dangerous driving of electric scooter users, both on roads and sidewalks, as well as their parking in public spaces.
