There is sufficient evidence for charges of arson resulting in death

A criminal prosecution was filed today, Wednesday, against the deputy mayor of Xylokastro-Evrostini for the deadly fire on September 29th that claimed the lives of two people and burned 71,000 acres of forest.

The Corinth prosecutor reviewed the case file prepared by the Fire Crime Investigation Department and determined that there is enough evidence to charge the deputy mayor with arson that led to death.

According to well-informed sources speaking to Proto Thema, the charges were based on the new Floridis law, which stipulates that anyone conducting “hot work” on days when it is prohibited and causes a fire will face charges for arson.

It is worth noting that the deputy mayor initially denied having smoked out his beehives on the day of the fire, something he later admitted. According to reports, the man is expected to provide explanations in the coming days before members of the fire department.
