More and more universities are joining the protest sit-in movement in educational institutions across Athens, following a proposal by the Athens University rector to introduce electronic voting by the student body.

Four universities have joined the protest to date. The latest, Athens Law School decided on Wednesday to join the movement saying they will continue until Friday. Apart from the Polytechnic University’s rector building that is already occupied, student sit-ins are also underway in the Health Sciences Faculty and the Faculty of Economics of the Athens law school.

It should be noted that the Athens University rector proposed the introduction of electronic voting to decide on major issues affecting the university as a way to broaden the student electoral base and allow as many people as possible to contribute important decisions.

However, the students argue this measure’s real purpose is to abolish student clubs.
