Depp after the dispute with Heard: I hold no hatred for anyone

The actor noted that hatred requires caring as well

Newsroom October 29 06:30

Johnny Depp, following his intense legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard, stated that he has “learned a lot” from these experiences. After facing accusations of domestic violence and a highly publicized defamation trial, Depp has returned to the big screen, starring in and directing the new film “Modi: Three Days in the Wing of Madness,” which premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival last month.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Depp reflected on this new phase of his life. When asked what he learned from the drama involving Amber Heard, he said, “Honestly, I can sit here right now and remember all the attack articles, how everyone was against me, and all those… endless things.”

“I remember everything. I went through it all. Some of it wasn’t the most beautiful moments, some were hilarious. Some were crazy. The point is it just was, and it is. For me, it just happened. I learned, my friend. Everything we go through, whether you’re handed an ice cream or taking your dog for a walk, somewhere you learn something along the way. So, I hold no grudge against anyone. I don’t have that big stockpile of hatred because hatred requires caring. Why should I carry that burden?”

Depp has also previously mentioned that he no longer feels the need for Hollywood. Specifically, he commented: “I had some clashes with Hollywood over the ease with which it follows a typical three-act structure and all those predictable elements. I’m sorry, but I had to go in there and mix it up a bit.”

The actor emphasized the importance of authenticity in the roles he now chooses, noting that he feels a “responsibility” to deliver his performances honestly. “It’s helpful in some cases, especially when everything around you is collapsing. It’s strange to be able to escape, not into a role, but to live within it. And as everything is in your tools — some of these can be used as stimuli. It’s wonderful,” Depp said, adding: “So, yes. Everything just… is. And at some level, it will always be there, something like OJ or something like that. But you know, it just happened. That’s all.”
