Mr Antonis Samaras will present the National Development Plan today at 7 pm.
With his program Prime Minister aims to change the production model of the country. One of the key promises is to create 550,000 jobs by 2018. Prime Minister will reiterate that if conditions permit, taxes and social security contributions will be reduced, a guaranteed minimum income will be established and a range of adjustments to enhance social cohesion will be put forward through reviewing the resources.
The plan refers to the strategic areas where Greek economy has comparative advantages and on which Greece will base its development, such as shipping, transportation, agricultural products, energy, researches, innovation and new technologies. The plan provisions are made to attract foreign investment by creating a favourable environment, reducing bureaucracy, liberating market and selling public assets.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister will visit the Dodecanese, on Thursday he will visit Ionian islands, while it is not decided yet how he will end up his election campaign in Athens.
The strategy for the elections
As the gap remains between New Democracy and SYRIZA, according to estimates, the government chooses to continue the attacks against the main opposition party. The aim is to state clearly to the citizens the risks so as to reduce possible abstention and avoid the protest vote favouring the opposition party.
Although the main message from the perspective of citizens will be given via the European elections, the whole picture will be also completed by the final results of the local and regional elections. The aim is to disappear SYRIZA from the regional map, if this is possible.
Thus, Mr. Simos Kedikoglou on behalf of the leadership of the government announced that the government supports Mr Yiannis Sgouros for Attica region and Giorgos Kaminis for Athens municipality in the second round.
“The message that will be sent on Sunday should not leave any room for political instability. The country needs a period of calm to complete all structural changes and reforms and continue the work in order to exit the crisis and continue the growth of the Greek economy,” says a member of the government’s staff adding that “there is no time to waste. On Monday, the political landscape should be clear,”.
In case Elia party does not get good results in European elections, the government team considers that PASOK may encounter some problems but the government will not be at risk since, as Prime Minister said, “there is a possibility to increase the government majority,”. However, the recommendations of the party’s secretary to keep low temper are not completely ruled out.
