Prince William spent his last day in South Africa by the sea, and he had a special guest with him for part of the morning: model and TV host Heidi Klum, whom he invited to learn more about sustainable fishing.
Actor Billy Porter and model Winnie Harlow also joined William at the event at Kalk Bay Harbor, where the group spent time discussing the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards, held on Wednesday, November 6, while sharing a traditional South African barbecue, known as a “braai.”
William arrived at Kalk Bay by lifeboat after previously visiting the National Sea Rescue Institute’s lifeguards. He was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of residents at the waterfront and made an impromptu walkabout, smiling and chatting with hundreds of locals gathered around the fishermen’s stalls.
One of them, Kate Wardle, handed him a few gifts. “I bought some beaded keychains from the local market with a ‘W’ and a ‘C’ on them, plus three more for the kids,” she told PEOPLE. “I said, ‘Here, if you’d like to take them.’
“He said thank you and joked, ‘Never go home empty-handed!’ He was so natural, relaxed, and down-to-earth. I appreciate him coming here, as he must be very exhausted after this week. His visit to Kalk Bay means a lot.”
In the photos released, Heidi Klum appears relaxed and smiling as she shares her meal with Prince William and the other guests. Dressed in black with a jockey hat, she seemed to enjoy herself.
A day prior, the famous German model had spoken about Prince William’s environmental efforts, which she was honored to be invited to support. “It’s a great honor to join him in this place to learn about sustainable fishing,” she said. “I knew our waters are overfished and polluted and all these terrible things. But I didn’t know about sustainable fishing. I love that I can learn more and hope to become a better person in the future.”
On the night of the awards ceremony, Heidi Klum wore a striking long orange dress with one sleeve, which she paired with gold high heels, subtle jewelry, and understated makeup.
