A Metron Analysis survey conducted on behalf of Ependysi shows that 46% of Greeks won’t buy presents for their loved ones this year because they can’t afford to. The barometer shows that the deadlock between the government and troika has caused 61% of those questioned to feel concerned, whereas 28% is indifferent and 9% feel that the situation is positive.

The groups most concerned about the crisis are housewives (73%) of housewives, pensioners (67%) and farmers (66%). Farmers are the group that is least likely to buy presents this Christmas with 69% of those questioned stating that they can’t afford to. Only 32% of those who have completed tertiary level education plan not to buy presents this year, 52% of those who have completed standard education plan not to buy presents this year, whereas the group least likely to buy presents are those who have a low level of education (66%).
