Who threw a table at singer A. Remos? (photos + video)

The man who threw the table is related to royals and works at Morgan Stanley

Newsroom December 6 09:56

Singer Antonis Remos had to stop his program at Diogenis after one of the guests sitting at the first table decided to throw a table at the singer. While throwing flowers is acceptable though dangerous, plate-breaking passé but still understandable, the idea that a table was flung onto the singer left everyone at the concert hall in their tracks.

The man responsible for the trouble was Nassos Thanopoulos.

Who is Nasos Thanopoulos?

Born in 1967, he grew up in Athens and moved with his family to London in 1982. He studed at a Greek-English College founded by the former king of Greece, King Constantine, for children like his own who wanted a quality Greek education in England. The college was created so that King Constantine’s own sons could attend, hence Mr. Thanopoulos studied with Prince Paul and Prince Nicholas.

After graduating from College he studied at the University of Geneva. He is surrounded by blue bloods and is the godfather of Odysseus-Kimon, the son of Prince Paul and Marie Chantal. Prince Nicholas was the best man when Mr. Thanopoulos married Nasia Panagiotaki in 2010.

When Prince Nicholas and his wife decided to move to Greece, it was Mr. Thanopoulos, who threw a birthday bash to welcome them to Greece’s high-class Northern suburbs.

Mr. Thanopoulos can afford to break tables, seeing how he works with Morgan Stanley. In banking, he has a reputation for being a highly effective professional.

What happened on Friday night?

Singer Antonis Remos, along with performers Yiannis Zouganelis and Melina Aslanidou, premiered at Diogenis.

In his second set at around 3 a.m., Mr. Remos was on the stage. Mr. Thanopoulos was in the front row listening to “The Night Broke” when he overturned the table and threw it on stage. It landed near the singer.

The move surprised the singer because the table landed along with bottles, glasses, cutlery, nuts and everything one could imagine a table would have at the bouzoukia.

Mr. Remos had actually requested that there be no flowers during his performances this year, so he hardly expected tables to be flung instead.

He immediately wanted to find out who threw the table. Once he found out who had done the deed, he said: “Because I respect you, I won’t say that you were a jerk, otherwise I would have said you were a big jerk-off. If you can’t handle, it don’t drink. It’s not right.”
