A new wave of bad weather from Italy will affect our country with showers and thunderstorms being more towards the west, north and the islands of the eastern Aegean.
According to Klearchos Marousakis, bad weather is expected over the weekend and “will approach us from the west to give us some showers and again thunderstorms, especially in the Ionian Sea and mainland Greece.
We are in a parade of successive bad weather, coming from western Europe, giving us this autumn weather with high temperatures with a bracket on Thursday – Friday weekend where the north wind will make the atmosphere more stable and will lower the temperature a little bit,” OPEN’s meteorologist said.
Cold at Christmas
It looks like it will be a cold Christmas as low temperatures tend to accumulate mainly after December 16-17, according to the latest weather outlook.
“It doesn’t seem to be anything special, although it may give snowfall, we will see it, a quick passage of a winter-type weather change,” said Sakis Arnaoutoglou.
Until 20/12, he said, the cold masses – looming from the north – remain and will eventually cross the Balkan barrier and reach our country. “After 16-17 there will be cold downturns, which will become even more intense after Dec 20. It’s not impossible that Christmas will be like this weather-wise,” Arnaoutoglou said.
A polar jet stream is coming to the country after mid-December
In a post, the EMY director referred to the polar jet stream that is expected to circle the country from mid-December and affect a large part of the country and the temperature in Attica.
“A trend of change in traffic is observed shortly before the end of the second ten days of December, when part of the polar jet stream will move southwards. Practically this movement will intensify the dynamics of the Central Mediterranean systems moving towards our country, resulting in more phenomena but also in temporary cold weather. The trend of temperature change in Athens does not show major deviations from normal values with slightly higher than normal temperatures,” Kolydas concludes in his post.
