In an article published on Tuesday, CNN comments on the failure of the Hellenic Parliament to elect a President of the Republic at the second voting that was held at noon today.
This development brings closer the possibility of snap national elections, the article says, and power may soon end up in the hands of popular anti-austerity SYRIZA party.
CNN comments on the fact that the main opposition party’s views are considered unrealistic and irrational by experts although they are very popular among Greeks who are facing high unemployment and other financial woes.
Some of these experts even believe that the reforms SYRIZA is pushing could trigger a crisis that would ultimately lead to Greece leaving the eurozone.
More specifically, according to Berenberg economist Holger Schmieding, there’s a 20% risk that Greece will descend into a new crisis and leave the euro, if with Syriza rises to power.
