Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been very open about their oldest biological child’s interest in all things masculine. The Hollywood couple have always been candid about their daughter’s cross-gender tendencies, however rumors flourished anew when the 8-year-old showed up at the premier of “Unbroken” wearing a suit.
Shiloh, female at birth, wanted to be called John since 2008, according to an interview where Mr. Pitt was candid with Oprah Winfrey. On her part, Ms. Jolie told Vanity Fair bck in 2010 that John/Shiloh has been on a quest to explore her self-identity. “She wants to be a boy,” said the actress. “So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”
The couple have embraced their child’s exploration. They not only support the child’s desire to dress as a boy but have given her the opportunity to explore who she is. They don’t see their daughter’s interest in being a boy as “just a phase”. Their open-mindedness has been praised by a large faction of society.
Clinical psychologist Linda Blair told The Telegraph that to explore both genders is normal but has been suppressed. Nonetheless, she says that parents shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that their child is “trans” as it is normal for children with older male siblings, as is the case with Shiloh, to want to copy them.
