Weather: Showers, southerly winds and a slight rise in temperature today – The forecast for the three days

In which areas the phenomena will be intense

Rain, snow and storms are expected today, possibly heavy in places, in the west and from midday in the Cyclades, western Crete and the eastern Aegean.

According to EMY director Thodoros Kolydas, the weather will be “cloudy with local rain in most areas of the country. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur mainly marine – coastal parts. The phenomena in the west and from noon in the Cyclades, Crete and the eastern Aegean Sea are likely to be strong in places. Some snow will fall in the highlands of Epirus and western Central Greece. Winds will blow south-southwest 4 to 5 Beaufort and in the seas locally 6 Beaufort.The temperature will rise slightly in the east. It will reach 12 to 14 degrees Celsius in the north and 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in the rest of the regions and 18 degrees Celsius locally in the southern islands“.

For his part, Open’s meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis says that “from Sunday onwards, we will be talking about a new deterioration of the weather from the west that will be completed on Clean Monday, again with rain, a drop in temperature and some storms in marine and coastal areas. On Clean Monday things will be a bit strange in the sense that this instability will prevail in many areas, we will have openings and closures in the weather, which means that rains are very likely to develop in many areas of our country.”

Negative minimum temperatures were recorded in the morning hours of Wednesday 26/02 in areas of the central and northern mainland, as well as on the plateaus of Crete. The two lowest minimum temperatures were recorded in Didymoteicho with -2 °C and in Tzermiadon of Lassithi with -1.8 °C.

According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr the eight lowest minimum temperatures of the day are presented in the table below.

Today’s weather

Across the country, intermittent clouds with localized showers are expected. The phenomena will be more intense and will be accompanied by thunderstorms in Western Greece, Sterea, the Peloponnese, the East Aegean islands, the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecanese. There is an increased chance of hail in the southernmost parts. Some snow will fall at higher altitudes in the mountainous areas of the mainland. During the night and early morning visibility will be limited in places.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 2 to 10 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from 0 to 13-14 degrees, in Epirus from 8 to 14 degrees, in Thessaly from 4 to 15 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from 6 to 14-16 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 11 to 15 degrees and in the Aegean islands and Crete from 7 to 15-17 degrees.

In the Aegean Sea the winds will blow from the south southwest at 4-5 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea initially southwest winds will blow with intensities up to 5 Beaufort, but will gradually shift to northwest winds with the same intensities.

In Attica we expect periodically increasing clouds with showers and occasional thunderstorms after noon. In the southern and southeastern parts of the prefecture it may rain from the morning hours. Winds will blow from southwestern directions with 4-5 Beaufort winds. The temperature will range from 9 to 14 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki we expect clouds with light rain at times, which is likely to intensify in the evening. Winds will blow from variable directions with intensities up to 4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 7 to 14 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Friday 28-02-2025

In the north and the Aegean clouds with showers and mainly in the islands of the eastern Aegean, western and southern Crete and the Dodecanese sporadic thunderstorms. The phenomena, which are likely to be strong until noon in the eastern Aegean, Crete and the Dodecanese, will gradually weaken. In the rest of the country a few clouds, partly cloudy, with local rain, mainly in the midday – afternoon hours. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds in the west will be initially variable, light and gradually in the Ionian Sea will blow northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the east it will initially blow from southerly directions 4 to 5, locally 6 Beaufort, quickly in the north and gradually in the remaining areas will turn to northerly 3 to 4 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 15 to 17 degrees Celsius almost all over the country and 18 degrees Celsius in some places in the southern mainland.

The weather on Saturday 01-03-2025

In central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly and the islands of the northeastern Aegean, clouds, partly cloudy with local showers. In the rest of the country a few clouds in places with the possibility of light local showers in the midday – afternoon hours. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds in the west will initially blow northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually shifting to southerly directions with the same intensity. In the east it will blow from the north 3 to 4 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly in the south.

The weather on Sunday 02-03-2025

Scattered clouds, initially more dense in the northern and eastern mainland and gradually in the rest of the regions with local showers in Macedonia, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Euboea and eastern Peloponnese. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds in the west will blow southeast 3 to 4 and locally in the Ionian Sea 5 Beaufort, which will gradually shift to east 3 to 5 and locally in the south 6 Beaufort. In the east it will blow north northeast 3 to 4 and locally in the northern Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.

The weather on Easter Monday 03-03-2025

In the east, the central and northern continents and in Crete increasing clouds with local rain. In the rest of the regions clouds partly increasing with a possibility of local rain of short duration. A little snow will fall in the central and northern mountains.

Winds in the west will blow from east 4 to 5 and in the southern Ionian Sea 6, locally 7 Beaufort. In the east it will blow north northeast 5 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea 7, locally 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop.
