Rising Temperatures, African Dust, and Sea Fog Expected
High temperatures, African dust, and sea fog will be the main weather features in Greece over the next few days.
According to meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis, Europe will be divided in the coming week. On one side, stormy weather will dominate areas west and north of Italy, while on the other side, high temperatures, African dust, and widespread sea fog will occur, with little to no rain expected.
Temperatures are set to rise over the next few days, with highs reaching 26 to 28°C in some areas. The highest temperatures are expected in the eastern mainland and northern Crete.

African Dust on the Horizon
The atmospheric circulation in the coming days will favor the transport of African dust toward Greece. African dust transport is a phenomenon we encounter quite frequently in the spring. However, it is worth noting that in recent years, both the frequency and intensity of this phenomenon have increased, partly due to desertification, which in turn is a result of climate change.
Humidity on the Coast
The warm and humid air that will affect Greece will lead to the formation of extensive sea fog in coastal areas. In fact, the dust transported from Africa will help the phenomenon develop further. It will be an impressive event, but caution is needed as visibility will be significantly reduced.

Spring Weather with a Twist
It seems that spring is trying to assert itself early. However, the atmospheric conditions over Europe are leading to a “bottling” of cold air in the northern latitudes. As a result, while we can expect the spring weather to dominate, occasional cold spells in our region cannot be ruled out.
Low Temperatures in the Morning
Negative minimum temperatures were recorded in parts of Greece during the morning hours of Saturday, March 8th. The lowest recorded temperature was at the meteorological station in Oxyro Nevrokopiou, which reached -7.2°C. Below is a table showing the eight lowest minimum temperatures on the morning of March 8th, according to the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr.

Weather Forecast for Sunday, March 9, 2025
