According to the publication, the future government partners, the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), have already agreed on the date, and preparations are underway. In addition, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier received Merz and the two SPD chairmen, Lars Klingbeil and Zaskia Esken, earlier today to formally inform them of the agreement between them.

Before the election of the chancellor, however, SPD members will have to vote to approve their party’s participation in the governing coalition under Christian Democratic Party (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz.
