Milwaukee Bucks: They “committed suicide” and were eliminated by the Pacers in the final second of overtime – Chaos at the end involving Antetokounmpo (videos)

The Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs for the third consecutive time, as the Pacers prevailed 119–118 in overtime with Tyrese Haliburton as their "savior"

Newsroom April 30 08:39

The Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the third straight year, after a dramatic 119–118 overtime loss in Game 5 to the Indiana Pacers. The defeat handed the Pacers a 4–1 series victory, and the Bucks were said to have “self-destructed.”

Milwaukee held a 20-point lead early in the game, were up by 4 just before the end of regulation, and led by 7 in overtime—yet somehow managed to lose.

Tyrese Haliburton the Hero

The savior for the Pacers was Tyrese Haliburton, who scored all the clutch baskets for his team. The Pacers’ star finished the game with an impressive stat line: 26 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.

Chaos at the End

At the final buzzer, Tyrese Haliburton’s father enraged Giannis Antetokounmpo by celebrating provocatively in the direction of the Bucks’ bench. Cameras even caught him yelling things like “Now go home.”

Giannis reacted strongly—walking directly up to him, getting in his face, and speaking to him in an extremely intense tone.

The situation escalated further when Antetokounmpo went to hug Pacers player Bennedict Mathurin, who shoved him away and whispered something to him. This triggered Giannis, who lunged at Mathurin, leading to a full-on altercation on the court.

In the post-game press conference, Giannis said Haliburton’s father’s behavior was “disrespectful,” and that’s why he reacted the way he did.

Game Recap: Pacers vs. Bucks

The Bucks came out strong, determined to push the series back to Milwaukee for a Game 6. Coach Doc Rivers’ team started with a 13–0 run, with Giannis scoring 7 of those 13 points. It took the Pacers 4 minutes and 28 seconds to score, finally breaking through with Myles Turner. The Bucks led by 17 after the first quarter (13–30).

In the second quarter, the Pacers responded with a 28–17 run. An 8–0 spurt made it 21–33 by the 15th minute, and Haliburton, Nembhard, and Turner chipped away at the lead, bringing it down to 7 (35–42 at 20:50). Aaron Nesmith continued the push, cutting the halftime deficit to just 6 (41–47).

After the break, Indiana ramped things up, using Milwaukee’s weak perimeter defense to take the lead for the first time at 52–51, following a 9–0 run. From that point on, the two teams traded baskets. Giannis and Bobby Portis Jr. helped the Bucks retake a 4-point lead (61–65), but the quarter ended in a 75–75 tie.

In the fourth, the Pacers built a 6-point lead by the 39th minute (87–82), but the Bucks surged ahead again (87–91) with Giannis and Trent Jr. leading the way. Indiana responded with a 6–0 run, and although Trent Jr. and Green hit clutch threes to put the Bucks up 97–101 with 1:30 left, Haliburton tied it with a dunk 10 seconds before the end—sending the game to overtime.

Overtime Drama

The extra five minutes began with a Haliburton three-pointer, and while Trent Jr. answered with four three-pointers to push Milwaukee ahead (111–115), the Pacers’ star had the last word. After a crucial mistake by a Bucks player, Haliburton capitalized and sealed the game—and the series—for Indiana.
