The Region of Attica is reinforced with 59 new fire engines, under the AIGIS programme

"It is an essential investment in the security of citizens and the resilience of the local community against the dangers of our times", said Yannis Kefalogiannis

Newsroom August 7 04:02

The Attica Region is being reinforced with 59 new fire trucks under the “AIGIS” programme, implemented by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, with funding from the Recovery Fund and the European Investment Bank.

This support is part of the overall strategy of upgrading the Fire Brigade with modern means.

The distribution of vehicles in Attica is as follows:

– 4 water-borne all-terrain fire-fighting vehicles with a capacity of 12,000 litres

– 2 water-borne fire-fighting vehicles with a capacity of 20,000 litres

– 3 water-based fire-fighting vehicles with a capacity of 1,000 litres

– 22 personnel transport vehicles

– 9 equipment transport vehicles

– 2 tanker vehicles for transporting liquid fuels

– 17 4×4 vehicles

“The reinforcement of Attica with 59 new vehicles is not just an equipment upgrade. It is a substantial investment in the safety of citizens and in the resilience of the local community against the dangers of our time,”, said the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis.

“Firefighters in the region are fighting a daily battle on the front line. The State supports them in practice, with modern and reliable means that enhance their operational capacity and protect their lives and work.

Together with the local government and society, we are building a safer and better prepared Region,” the Minister added.

As the ministry stressed in a statement, the new resources are instrumental in enhancing the readiness of local fire services, contributing to a faster and more effective response to fires and other emergencies.

The delivery is part of a national plan to strengthen the fleet with over 1,400 new vehicles by 2026, through funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, the NSRF and the European Investment Bank.

The project/action is implemented in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
