Donald Trump Donald Trump yesterday, Monday, congratulated ultra-conservative nationalist politician Sanae Takayichi, 64, chairwoman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), who is expected to formally become Japan‘s new prime minister in the coming days. She will be the first woman to hold the office in the country’s history.
“Japan has just elected its first female prime minister, a person who is highly respected, has great wisdom and power. This is great news for the incredible people of Japan. Congratulations to all!” the 79-year-old US head of state said via Truth Social, but did not include her name in his post.
Reacting, Ms Takayichi said for her part via X that she was “very pleased” with Mr Trump’s “warm words”. “I truly hope to work with President Trump to make our alliance even stronger and more prosperous and to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
