Serious problems were caused by the storm that hit the island of Andros on Tuesday afternoon (7/10).

Specifically, as the Municipality of Andros said in a statement, the heavy rainfall resulted in the overflow of the river in the area of Neiborio, carrying away waste materials, soil, and branches, which blocked the exit to the sea, resulting in the roads being flooded with mud.

According to the Municipality of Andros, “the Civil Protection of the Municipality, under the coordination of the mayor, Theodosis Sousoudis and the special associate Yannis Bakelas, reacted immediately.

From the first moment of the bad weather, a JCB project machine and a truck of the Municipality operated at the site for cleaning and restoring road safety, while a police car with two policemen regulated the traffic.”

The work was carried out until late midnight, and is still being carried out today in order to restore the outlet of the torrent and clear the flooded roads.

In detail, the announcement of the Municipality of Andros:

“The storm hit the area of Foiroi and Neiborio. The intense storm that hit Neiborio late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) caused serious local problems due to the excessive amount of water and debris. It flooded the river, bringing hundreds of cubic metres of soil and branches, which blocked the exit to the sea, and tons of mud flooded the roadway.

The Civil Protection of the Municipality of Andros, under the coordination of Mayor Theodosis Sousoudis, and special associate Mr. Yannis Bakelas, reacted immediately.

Interventions continued until late midnight and will continue through early Wednesday morning to restore the torrent outlet and make the road fully accessible.

Drivers traveling in the area are asked to exercise caution and follow the instructions of authorities.
The Municipality of Andros remains on constant alert.

We thank all those who contributed to the immediate management of the situation”.
