Olympiacos – Panathinaikos 90-86: The Derby at SEF Painted Red

Olympiacos survived the derby of big absences (Fournier, Nunn) and came out victorious with a 90-86 win over Panathinaikos, with Ward playing a key role and Vezenkov, Milutinov, and Dorsey putting on standout performances.

Shorts was excellent for the “Greens”.

Olympiacos – Panathinaikos: The Game

Panathinaikos trusted Shorts with the ball early, while the Olympiacos defense focused on him.
Similarly, Panathinaikos’ defense zeroed in on Dorsey, who hit his first three-pointer (7-7, 4’).

Olympiacos aimed to feed the ball inside, but Mitoglou scored five straight points (14-14, 8′), followed by five from Shorts (16-19, 9’).

Two assists by Dorsey led to three-pointers by Ward and Peters for Olympiacos (24-23, 11’), but Mitoglou was already in rhythm on the other end.

Panathinaikos kept finding answers, and Toliopoulos became a factor with 11 points, pushing the score to 32-42 (15’).

Coach Bartzokas moved Peters to the “3”, and Olympiacos fought back, with Vezenkov hitting a buzzer-beater to cut the lead to 43-48 at halftime.

With Ward returning, the game shifted. First Milutinov, then Ward, sparked Olympiacos: 52-53 (24’) – back to square one.

Yurtseven found ways to score in the paint (62-65, 29’), but Vezenkov responded with quality buckets (68-67, 30’).

Then it was Dorsey’s turn, leading solo plays for 72-67 (31’).
Despite Panathinaikos struggling in the 4th quarter, Shorts broke the drought (74-69, 34’), but the Greens were now chasing the score.

Still carrying his team, Shorts’ 5-0 run gave Panathinaikos the lead again (80-81, 37’).

Olympiacos answered through Vezenkov and Milutinov (84-81, 39’), but Sloukas tied the game on the next possession.

Ward stepped up on defense, stopping Sloukas, preserving the 86-84 lead from Milutinov’s score.
Then Ntilikina made it 88-84 with 28.7 seconds to go.

Sloukas closed it to 88-86 with 15.2 seconds left, but Dorsey’s calm free throws sealed the win.
