Chrysochoidis: No actions should disrespect the Unknown Soldier — Every country has a monument that is honored

He recalled, “We’ve lived through both the upper and lower square. You can tell me what’s left of it — What did they leave behind? Trash. They left populism, lies, and great harm. Let’s learn from that”

About the regulation the government is preparing to bring tomorrow, Tuesday, on the Unknown Soldier, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, took a stand today, Monday, noting that “there are sacred things. What should not be done is a series of activities that insult the monument itself.”

As he told OREN about the arrangement, “This story is not about Tempe, it is about the overall arrangement and order in a place that is sacred, like the Unknown Soldier. Now is an opportunity to have a legislative order, for the army to take over the site for orderliness, beautification, and cleanliness.”

“Isn’t there a monument in every country that everyone respects? We must do this with individual and national responsibility,” Chrysochoidis added in this context.

He also reminded us that “we have experienced the upper and lower square. You can tell me what’s left of it. What did they leave behind? Trash. They left populism and lies and they did us great damage. Let’s take lessons from this.”

“The social contract is not a given. The issue of unity of the people is here. Because we have six years out of the disaster, let us all be careful,” concluded the Minister of State.
