While the government reshuffle and the plenary agenda for the Baltakos-Golden Dawn case are pending, the government decided to end Parliament’s full plenary sessions causing strong reactions of the opposition.

This action was discussed last week between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and President of the Parliament, Mr Vangelis Meimarakis. The early closure was decided yesterday after the plenary session where the Members of the Golden Dawn caused turmoil in the Parliament. The last thing that Prime Minister wants now is to apologize to Mr Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the main opposition party SYRIZA, for his former close associate Takis Baltakos in the light of new “revelations” by the members of the Golden Dawn regarding their relationships with executives and staff of the Prime Minister’s party.

Meimarakis when talking with MPs does not hide that the government’s intention is to cancel the pre-agenda debate that SYRIZA asks.

Another reason is that the government wants to avoid the complaints of its members who will not be included in the government scheme after the reshuffle.

Moreover, during the summer sessions a series of major bills are expected to be voted. During that period 100 MPs will sit in three phases so all 300 lawmakers take part during the next months. Who will be at each phase is up to the leaders of each party. This simply means that the government can rule out the MPs who might not vote for the bills.

Prime Minister proceeded to a show of strength since despite the outcome of the elections and the four points he continues with questionable democratic methods. Also, it should be noted that the last time the Parliament’s full plenary sessions ended early was in May 2009 with Kostas Karamanlis as a Prime Minister in order to write-off the cases that would lead to political scandals. So, by ending early the plenary sessions all cases till Papandreou and Papadimou are written off.

Meanwhile the government presents symptoms of paralysis. Ministers are calling reporters and colleagues trying to find out whether they stay or leave and argue in favor of their stay.

However, the Prime Minister, does not seem to be in a hurry despite the pressure he get by various sides. It is said that he will proceed to the government reshuffle on Sunday or on Monday without excluding further delay. Also, the issue of the Finance Minister position is still pending and all options are open, from Mr Stournaras, the current Finance Minister, leaving to being appointed to the Bank of Greece.
