The award, which was presented for the 9th consecutive year and for the 3rd year with the support of the Karatzis Group, is an institution dedicated to promoting scientific research and encouraging young scientists with high academic performance and innovative work.

The philosophy of the institution – The vision of Miltiadis Karatzis

The award ceremony reflects the philosophy of the Group’s founder, Miltiadis Karatzis, who firmly believed that science is one of the most valuable gifts to society and that behind every achievement stands a person of integrity, dedication and vision.

During the ceremony, it was his grandson, Mr Miltiadis Karatzis, who personally presented the award to this year’s honouree, adding special symbolism and continuity to the family’s vision. Illustrating this continuity, the grandson and family representative, Miltiadis Karatzis, stated:
“Every time we gather here, I feel that we are not only honouring his past, but also the future he dreamed of supporting. The ‘Miltiadis Karatzis’ Award was created to encourage young people who strive for knowledge, innovation and progress. For my family, this award is a way to continue my grandfather’s work not with words, but with actions.”

The contribution of the Karatzis Group

The Karatzis Group, led by its President & CEO Mr Antonis Karatzis, consistently supports the institution, systematically contributing to the promotion of scientific excellence. With the valuable contribution of the General Manager Mr Kostas Archontakis, it remains a steady supporter of initiatives that serve progress, knowledge and the values represented by the institution.

For the Group, this award is not merely support, but the continuation of a vision: to invest in the future, empower young scientists and contribute to the development of research with real, human impact.

This year’s award recipient: Dimitrios I. Zaridis

The committee, consisting of leading academics and institutional representatives of FORTH and the University Community, unanimously decided to present the award to Dimitrios I. Zaridis, researcher and PhD candidate at the National Technical University of Athens. His work focuses on the development of Artificial Intelligence algorithms for the early detection and monitoring of prostate cancer, contributing to improved diagnosis and therapeutic guidance. With more than 30 international publications, hundreds of citations and significant distinctions already to his name, Mr Zaridis represents an outstanding example of a young scientist who consistently serves the purpose of the institution.
