The home of France’s former president, François Hollande, and his wife, Gillie Gayet, was the target of a break-in last month.
The couple’s home, was under 24-hour police guard; however, on Saturday, November 22, two men managed to break into it and steal a watch and Gayet’s iPad while police officers were just a few meters away, according to French media.
Later, one of the attackers returned to retrieve the electronic cigarette he had left at home. He even managed to escape by jumping over the fence. The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects, while Hollande’s watch was found and returned to the French former president.
The investigation showed there were weaknesses in police protection, as the door to the house was not locked and the garden door was left open.
