Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who is living in hiding in her country, “will do everything possible” to return to Venezuela despite the risks of being arrested, she said from Oslo today, the day after she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I have come to receive the prize in the name of the Venezuelan people and I will take it to Venezuela at the appropriate time,” said 58-year-old Maria Corina Machado while visiting the Norwegian parliament.

“I will not say when or how this will happen, but I will do everything in my power to be able to return and also to end this tyranny very soon,” she added, giving the assurance that “the work must be completed” to restore democracy in her country.

Maria Corina Machado, who fled her country under mysterious circumstances to arrive in Oslo to receive the award, said that being in opposition in her country is “very dangerous.”
