Problems in ferry services due to strong winds

Passengers are advised to contact port authorities and shipping companies before departure for timely and accurate information

Newsroom January 26 11:12

Ferry services have been disrupted in several areas due to adverse weather conditions affecting many maritime regions of the country.

According to the National Meteorological Service, winds are from the south to southeast at 5 to 7 Beaufort, reaching locally 8 and possibly 9 Beaufort in the Aegean, shifting to southwest in the afternoon with slight weakening.

Ferry routes operating normally today, minor disruptions in the Saronic Gulf

The Hellenic Coast Guard announced that due to weather conditions, ferry services to the Cyclades were canceled. From the port of Piraeus, the morning departure of the Blue Star Delos at 07:25 to Naxos and Thira did not operate, nor did the Fast Ferries Andros at 07:30 to Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos. The 14:15 departure of Dionysios Solomos to the Western Cyclades will also not take place. In the Saronic Gulf, high-speed vessels are not operating, while conventional ships sail at the captain’s discretion.

Cancellations were also reported from Rafina, where the morning route to the Cyclades was canceled, with the next scheduled departure postponed to the afternoon. Similarly, from Lavrio, the morning route to Kea was canceled, and subsequent departures from Rafina and Lavrio will be assessed after 16:00 depending on weather developments. The ferry lines Kavala–Prinos and Agia Marina–Nea Styra remain closed.

Passengers planning to travel are urged to contact local port authorities and shipping companies before departure for timely updates on potential changes or cancellations.
