Even though Madonna would be the last person one would have thought capable of supporting conservative politicians of yore, she managed to yet again, give everyone a surprise — pleasant or negative, depending on your viewpoint.

The pop diva caused an uproar on Instagram, after posting a photo of Margaret Thatcher, the late “Iron Lady” that transformed the UK more than two decades ago. Madonna’s statement was a Thatcher quote: “If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing”.

The problem lies herein, however, since Madonna is extremely popular amongst the LGBT communities, whom she vigorously supported in the 1980s and 90s. Thatcher, on the other hand, was, and still is, a conservtive icon.

Even though Madonna erased her Instagram post after a few minutes, many believe that this misstep will cost her quite a few fans.
