Greek Community of Toronto appoints Georgia Papaspyrou as Chief Operating Officer

The appointment was approved unanimously by the Board of Directors following a recommendation from the Executive Committee and in accordance with the governance framework

Newsroom March 11 03:16

The Board of Directors of the Greek Community of Toronto is pleased to announce the appointment of Georgia Papaspyrou as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the organization, effective March 4, 2026.

The appointment was approved unanimously by the Board of Directors following a recommendation from the Executive Committee and in accordance with the governance framework established by the organization’s bylaws.

This decision follows the membership’s approval of Article 5.07 – Chief Operating Officer Authority and Governance Protection, which formally established the COO position and defined the operational structure under which the Greek Community of Toronto operates. The bylaw clarifies the distinction between governance and administration, ensuring that the Board of Directors focuses on strategic direction and oversight while professional management oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization.

Under Article 5.07, the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the daily operations of the Greek Community of Toronto, including staff supervision, program execution, vendor management, operational coordination across departments, and the implementation of policies and strategies approved by the Board.

The bylaw also reinforces strong governance principles by ensuring that the COO participates in Board meetings to provide operational updates while remaining independent of the Board’s voting structure. This framework supports transparency, accountability, and responsible management while allowing the organization to function with a clear and professional operational structure.

Mrs. Papaspyrou has been serving the Greek Community of Toronto in various capacities for the past 12 years, building extensive institutional knowledge and a strong record of service to the organization. She has effectively been performing many of the responsibilities described in the by-law through her role as General Manager. She holds an MBA and has demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and leadership in supporting the Community’s operations.

In her role, Mrs. Papaspyrou works closely with the Board during budgeting cycles, supports departments across the organization, coordinates programs, and plays a central role in planning and executing many of the Community’s major cultural and community events.

The Board recognized that the operational demands of the Greek Community of Toronto continue to grow as the organization manages multiple facilities, programs, cultural initiatives, and large-scale events throughout the year. The formal appointment of a Chief Operating Officer reflects the need for consistent operational leadership and continuity as the organization continues to expand its activities and services.

The appointment therefore formalizes an operational leadership structure that the membership has already approved and acknowledges the responsibilities that Mrs. Papaspyrou has been successfully fulfilling.

The Board also congratulates Mrs. Papaspyrou on her nomination for the 34th Annual RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards, to which she was nominated by the organisations Relationship Management in Commercial Financial Services who recognized and expressed admiration for her hard work, leadership, and dedication.

The RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards is the premier national awards program celebrating the achievements of Canada’s most successful women entrepreneurs.

The Board of Directors expressed its confidence that Mrs. Papaspyrou’s leadership, experience, and commitment will continue to support the effective management and long-term stability of the Greek Community of Toronto.
