A nationwide 24-hour strike is being held today, Monday, March 23, by taxi drivers, coinciding with the day the Ministry of Transport’s bill is being voted on.

Taxis operated normally over the weekend, as drivers suspended their strike for two days to serve passengers. However, starting today, the protests intensify, against the backdrop of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s bill being debated and voted on in Parliament.

Taxi drivers are holding a new 24-hour strike from 6 a.m., with a protest gathering scheduled at the SATA offices and a march towards the Parliament.

Taxi owners and drivers mainly oppose the mandatory transition to electric vehicles from 2026 for new vehicles, with the sector requesting an extension of the measure at least until 2035.

Trains also halt today due to Tempi
At the same time, a 24-hour strike on the railway, including Athens’ suburban railway, has been called by the Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers, coinciding with the first day of the trial for the Tempi tragedy.

According to a statement from Hellenic Train, no services will operate across the entire network today.
