On Holy Wednesday, Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a ban on access to social media for children under 15, effective from January 1, 2027.
As he said in a video he posted on social media, the regulation will be introduced in the summer of 2026 and “Greece will be among the first countries to take this initiative.”

“Our goal is to also push the EU in this direction,” Mr. Mitsotakis added. Addressing children, he said: “Now I am sure that many of the younger ones will be upset with me. If I were your age, I might feel the same way. But our role is not to be pleasant.”
It is noted that at 13:00, a joint press conference will take place regarding the new regulatory framework for minors’ access to social media. It will be presented by the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, the Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Minister of State Akis Skertsos at the Ministry of Digital Governance.
