Tehran has submitted a proposal to the United States that includes the lifting of sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the lifting of the naval blockade on the country, according to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, as reported by the state news agency IRNA.
According to him, the proposal also includes an end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, the withdrawal of US forces from areas near Iran, and compensation for damages caused by the war.
Despite ongoing talks, significant differences remain between the two sides.
In a recent speech to Iran’s parliamentary National Security Committee, Gharibabadi stressed that Iran will not give up its right to uranium enrichment. This issue remains a central point of disagreement, as the United States is demanding that Iran suspend enrichment for the next two decades, a timeframe Tehran considers excessively long.
Iran is demanding that the United States guarantee an end to the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon, before any discussion of its nuclear program. The US refuses to make such prior commitments, arguing that this will depend on the course of negotiations.
Tehran also calls for an end to the blockade on its ports, which the US says would only be lifted if Iran first opens the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Iran insists on compensation for war damages, a demand Washington has rejected.
In addition, Iran is demanding the withdrawal of US forces from the region, particularly from the Gulf Cooperation Council states, as well as the lifting of all sanctions related to its nuclear program, alleged human rights violations, and support for terrorism—demands the United States has not agreed to revoke.
Gharibabadi presented a detailed report on the negotiations and Iran’s proposals to members of the parliamentary National Security Committee, emphasizing Iran’s “right to enrichment and peaceful use of nuclear energy.”
According to IRNA, the report also included the need for an end to war on all fronts, lifting of the US naval blockade, release of Iranian assets, compensation for damages caused by the United States, lifting of unilateral sanctions and UN Security Council resolutions, and the withdrawal of US forces from the region surrounding the Islamic Republic.
