Greece‘s weather will have “two distinct faces” over the coming days, according to protothema.gr meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias, with high temperatures expected across the northern parts of the country and showers and thunderstorms developing over mainland areas during the warmest part of the day.

More specifically, today, Wednesday, 1 July 2026, rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop from midday onwards across western mainland Greece, Macedonia and Thrace, mainly over mountainous areas. The weather may locally be accompanied by squally conditions and hail.

Maximum temperatures will reach 37°C to 38°C across central and northern Greece, 34°C in the eastern Aegean and the Ionian Islands, and around 30°C in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

Winds will blow from northwesterly directions, reaching up to Force 4 on the Beaufort scale in the Ionian Sea and locally up to Force 6 in the Aegean.

Attica is expected to enjoy generally clear skies, with light winds and temperatures ranging from 24°C to 37°C.

In Thessaloniki, brief showers or a passing downpour are forecast from midday onwards. Winds over the Thermaic Gulf will remain light, while temperatures are expected to reach 36°C.

The unsettled conditions will persist during the warmest hours of the day across mainland Greece on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to climb to 38°C again on Thursday before gradually easing from Friday onwards.

At the same time, the seasonal meltemi northerly winds will gradually strengthen from Saturday, while showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more limited on Sunday.
