New Democracy has released a video marking the 11th anniversary of the July 2015 referendum, directly targeting Alexis Tsipras and the political decisions he made at the time.
“No one forgets those who gambled with the future of the Greek people and the nation,” New Democracy says, revisiting that dramatic week.
The video combines excerpts from a televised address delivered by the former prime minister with footage of queues outside banks during the capital controls, as well as scenes of celebrations in Syntagma Square.
Describing it as “The Timeline of Shame”, the governing party recalls that, on 27 June, the then Prime Minister and current president of ELAS proposed holding the referendum, which was approved by Parliament the following day. It also recalls his statements announcing the imposition of capital controls, while noting that the referendum took place on 5 July, with New Democracy commenting that the “‘No’ became a ‘Yes’.”
