Student who scored 19,710 points and ranked first in Athens Medical School: “A person’s abilities are not measured solely by exam scores”

One of the biggest success stories of this year’s Panhellenic university entrance examinations comes from Rhodes. Maria-Michaela Chaireti, who scored 19,710 points, ranked first for admission to the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, fulfilling a dream she had been pursuing for years.

Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the outstanding student expressed her excitement over the achievement, describing it as the greatest success she could have hoped for.

“It is the greatest success I could have achieved. It is the highest form of satisfaction,” she said shortly after the results were announced.

Despite her exceptional performance, she admitted that the journey to the top was not without stress and self-doubt. Every difficult moment, she explained, became an incentive to work even harder.

“Even during moments of stress and anxiety, I worked, studied, and pushed myself even more to achieve my goal,” she said.

Her decision to study medicine was no coincidence. Although she was raised in a family of doctors, she emphasized that the choice was entirely her own, having understood from an early age the importance of the medical profession.

“Being a doctor is a vocation, not simply a profession. Through their work, doctors help protect our most precious asset—our life and health,” she said, adding that although both of her parents are physicians, her decision was made consciously and based on her own aspirations.

What makes her outlook particularly remarkable, however, is the message she sends to her peers. Despite finishing at the very top, she does not see the Panhellenic exams as the only path to success.

“The Panhellenic exams are not the only road in life, and a person’s worth and abilities are not measured solely by exam scores. Anyone who works hard enough can achieve their dreams and goals,” she said.
