A historical 45-minute-long phone call between Obama – Castro

According to Barack Obama, US tend a hand of friendship to the people of Cuba and adds that the normalization of diplomatic relations will start with Cuba -Obama welcomes the efforts of his counterpart Castro, although there are still many differences between the two countries

Following the historical 45 minute long phone conversation between Barack obama and his Kuban counterpart President of the Council of State of Cuba Raul Castro, a historical change in policy relations between the US and Cuba was announced shortly after.

The historic approach among the two sides was reached after the prisoner swap, which was the result of months of effort on both sides in Canada.

As was announced by the US President, the US government intends to open an embassy in Havana in the coming months, while trade relations and facilitating travel will be strengthened to Cuba.

At the same time, more Cuban prisoners will be released and will be issued licenses which will allow access to Cuba for family visits, for journalistic missions, research and educational purposes.

Meanwhile, the US credit and debit cards will be allowed to be used of travelers visiting Cuba, and telecommunication companies will be able to “create the necessary mechanisms, including infrastructure” .

Furthermore,  US travelers will be able to carry goods worth  400 dollars from Cuba to the US and tobacco products and alcoholic beverages worth up to 100 dollars.

According to a statement of Barack Obama from the White House, today is the beginning of the process of normalization of US relations with Cuba.

As he said, “we will put an end to an outdated approach that lasted decades and failed to advance our interests. Today, the US changed their relations with the citizens of Cuba. ”

Finally, Mr. Obama stressed that  even today “we have what we always were looking for, a real partnership with the government.”
