110 people killed, 240 injured

The Syrian airstrikes on the Damascus suburb of Douma that killed at least 100 civilians Sunday was dubbed an ‘official massacre’. ‘This is an official massacre that was carried out deliberately”, said Rami Abdurrahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. He said warplanes fired a missile at the market and then launched another, after people were trying to retrieve the wounded. UN humanitarian chief Stephen O’Brien condemned the attack stating he ‘was horrified by the total lack of disrespect for civilian life in this conflict’. He said he was particularly ‘appalled’ by reports about the attack on Douma Sunday adding ‘they must stop’. O’Brien met Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem and expressed a willingness to work with the government to alleviate humanitarian suffering. According to the latest estimates over 240 people are injured in one of the most bloody attacks since 2011. Many videos have been uploaded online showing the people in rubble, blaring ambulances arriving on the scene and cries of the wounded.
