Cypriot President meets with ECB Chief

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades is meeting with the ECB chief Mario Draghi today and EC president-elect Jean-Claude Juncker tomorrow

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades is meeting with European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi in Frankfurt at 11.30 a.m. today. Cypriot Finance Minister Harris Georgiades and the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus Chrystalla Georghadji are with Mr. Anastasiades.

Asked about the meeting, Mr. Anastasiades refused to give details about the matters on the table stating that publicity won’t help his country’s efforts in the talks on the fiscal system in regards to responsibility of the ECB. It should be noted that Mr. Anastasiades and Mr. Draghi had a public disagreement in 2013 when they didn’t see eye-to-eye on the case for Central Bank Chief Panicos Demetriades.

This afternoon, the president is to attend the European Council, where European heads of state will exchange views with Jean-Claude Juncker, the president-elect of the European Commission. Mr. Anastasiades will also meet with Mr. Juncker tomorrow.
