Eyesore or artistic freedom? Melbourne suburb debates

Michelangelo it isn’t, but then again …

Tacky or an artistic interpretation of classic work? Right to manage your private property as you see fit, or an eyesore that provokes your neighbors?
Debate on those subjects swirls in a quiet suburban Melbourne, of all places, over a replica of Michelangelo’s masterpiece, David, placed conspicuously in a home’s front yard. take pride of place in a residential front yard.

The site of the five-meter statue has generated a firestorm of debate in the usually calm Caroline Springs neighborhood this week.
Rose and Robert live next door and say when it comes to front yard statues, size does matter.

“Basically we’re prisoners, we can’t enjoy it, we can’t enjoy our home, our kids can’t run in the backyard without seeing it, they can’t go for a swim without seeing it,” says Rose.

However, the owner of the “Aussie David”, Amanda Perkovi, says the granite statue is staying put.
“It’s my house, it’s my property, I can put what I want in front of it,” she says.
