Greek PM A. Tsipras heads to Brussels on Sunday

The Government Council convened ahead of Monday’s Eurogroup and European Council

A Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government council – chaired by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras – ended after five and a half hours. Economy Minister George Stathakis told reporters that the government was working towards a deal and is ready to present Greek proposals to institutions on Monday.
Government officials are putting the possibility of the extension of a mini-deal on the table for the first time though such a development is not the first choice that the government would have liked.

On Sunday, Tsipras had telephone contact with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. During his talks, he discussed the Greek proposal for a mutually beneficial agreement that would break the impasse between Greece and its international creditors, hence giving a final solution to the probem.

The Greek prime minister is heading to Brussels on Sunday evening in order to take part in the European Council at 8 p.m. on Monday.
