Iraq: ISIS conquers Ramadi, Iraqi security forces on the back foot

The US Pentagon downplayed the importance of the ISIL victory

ISIS fighters claimed that they conquered Ramadi in Iraq, yesterday, managing the biggest blow to the Iraqi government since last summer.

 

In their announcement, ISIS stated that it captured armored vehicles and killed tens of “apostates” (Iraqi security forces personnel).

 

Ramadi is the capital of the western, Shiite province.  Elisa Smith, a US Pentagon representative stated that ISIL now has the advantage in Ramadi.
